Jurisdiction

australia and new zealand web

The jurisdiction of the Sydney IIC covers New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory (Canberra), Queensland and the Northern Territory.

Since Mid-May of 2016, the Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney has extended its activity of promotion and diffusion of the Italian language and culture to New Zealand. Implemented by the Italian Embassy in Wellington, all of the Institute’s initiatives in New Zealand will be promoted in close collaboration with the Embassy. At present, this is the first and only Institute out of the 82 operating in the world, to have extended its jurisdiction to a second country of accreditation, which was made possible by the recent reforms to Italian legislation, 401 of 1990, that regulates the activity of the Italian Cultural Institutes abroad.

The first activities in New Zealand were organized in collaboration with some of the main local cultural institutions and universities and covered an array of topics including seminars on literature, conferences on design and green architecture, and concerts for piano and violin.
